Continuous use of Indometacin - Indocin drug may result in certain
serious side effects, which reduces the preventing capacity in human
body. Since this drug is inhibiting both the COX-1 and COX-2, it
inhibits the production of prostaglandins in intestines and stomach
that maintain the mucous lining of the gastrointestinal tract.
Therefore, continuous and regular usage of this medicine will result
in peptic ulcers just like other nonselective COX inhibitors.
Such ulcers that affect human body due to this drug will result
serious bleeding and perforation requiring immediate hospitalization
for the patient. Experienced doctors will prefer the Indometacin -
Indocin drug in the lowest dosage for reducing the possibilities of
the affecting peptic ulcers. Taking this medicine in the lowest
dosage will provide the best therapeutic effect for the patient
without any side effects. The normal dosage of this medicine ranges
between 50mg and 200mg per day.
Another major side effect that affect human body due to the over
dosage of this drug is that, it will reduce aldosterone level and
plasma rennin activity. Some times the sodium and potassium
retention may be increased due to the over dosage of Indometacin
drug. Over usage of this drug will result in enhanced effects of
vasopressin, if the patient is having such problems. Together with
the above stated side effects, the usage of Indometacin - Indocin
drug may also cause hyperkalemia, edema, hypernatremia and
hypertention that will seriously affect human body. This drug may
cause serious renal damages such as chronic nephritis, acute renal
failure and nephritic syndrome as well as serum creatine elevations.
